Back home

We had a lovely time in Tennessee, relaxing with my parents. We attended a beautiful traditional Christmas Eve service at their Methodist Church, complete with candles for everyone as we sang "Silent Night" at the conclusion of the service.

We opened our stockings and presents on Christmas morning, and enjoyed a turkey dinner together in the afternoon. Then, of course, it was nap time. On Christmas Eve day my brother Roger and family had come to join us and we celebrated Christmas with them and played some board games.

All too soon Dec. 26 came and we packed up the car. When behold what to our wondering eyes should appear, but my sister Lori and her son Richard, so dear!

Lori had driven from Chicago on Christmas night (stopping to sleep at a couple rest stops) so we got a chance to see her before the "changing of the guard" at Mom and Dad's. Lori is now enjoying their company and hospitality. It all worked out very nicely.

Tim and the boys jumped right back into work when we got home. After only a few hours of sleep, they went to a drywall job. Christina, excited for her 18th birthday, had slept a lot in the car and was jumping around most of the time at home, until she went out to enjoy her day with friends.

Today we are having a family party for Christina, so I better get cracking to get the house and food ready. I don't have to be back at work till Wednesday, so I'm really enjoying this nice long break (1 1/2 weeks paid holiday!).

Happy new year to all, hope 2008 is GREAT!!

Till next time,

We're in Tennessee!

We're safe in Tennessee! We got ahead of most of the snow, but had lots of wind and some rain through Indiana and Kentucky. We went out to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa and had leftovers for supper. Yum! Also got some napping in, as 20+hours is the car is no picnic!!

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!

Till next time,

We're off

After a busy week at work, partying with the Nelsons last night, baking, cleaning, shopping, wrapping, opening, packing, etc. etc. we are headed out in the snow and ice to Tennessee. It seems to have let up now so we're hopeful for good roads on the way down. I think we'll leave around 1 pm today (in a few minutes--hopefully!)

Till next time,

Scrabulous

I'm still spending way too much time on Scrabulous. Tim has beat me on 10 games. We have 4 more going now. I'm beating Luke on one--so far. I lost one game to my friend Bev.

Got some Christmas shopping done. Still have baking to do--did some decorating and Tim's working on cards.

In a week and a half we leave for Tennessee! Fun--but lots to do before then!!

Till next time,

Another Five-Oh

Perhaps I wanted my birthday post to be up for awhile. Maybe I've been really, really busy. It might be that I've been playing too much Scrabulous on Facebook.

But I do want to with my in-laws a happy 50th anniversary since we've now had their big party. It was very fun and nice to see lots of old friends. Many have already had their 50th birthdays--and even 50th anniversaries. Some have lost spouses and had no opportunity to celebrate 50 years together. Although one widow there had celebrated 60 years plus of marriage to her dear husband, who passed away a few years ago.

Even though it snowed quite a bit the day before the event, lots of people turned out. There were at least 20 people there who never RSVPed, but somehow there was plenty of food. I think my mother-in-law counted 111 people who had come.

I've often teased my in-laws about their marriage so close to my 50th birthday. Here's what I tell them (and I announced at my own birthday party): When I was born, God knew that little girl would need someone special. So, on the day of my birth, my husband Tim was conceived.

They were married on Nov. 24. My birthday is Nov. 27. Tim was born 9 months later on Aug. 26.

***********************************************************************************

More snow arrived on Tuesday, making the evening commute a mess. It's said that this is the Winter Without a Bridge. I have noticed that evening traffic seems worse since the Mississippi River bridge collapse. I took back roads home Tuesday and didn't have much trouble at all. Nice to know those scooter routes!

This morning we woke up to more whining on the radio about traffic snarls and snow earlier than they had predicted. I took the freeway and had no trouble getting to work. The predicted 1-3 inches was probably closer to one or less.

Well, we've complained for many years that December was too green (no snow). Now we should have plenty for Christmas.

If ya need a white Christmas, come on up!

Till next time,

Suzi
